Now there's an aesthetic style you don't hear very often. Or ever. But yes, one of my fellow bloggers Joseph Starr at 3rings points out Tuscan minimalism appearing at Salone del Mobile in Milan. The work comes in the form of manufacturer Toscoquattro’s Chorus bathroom series by Claudio Nardi. Nardi's work is elegant, clean and modern - without seeming overtly modern.
Joseph describes the designer's philosophy this way:
Nardi seems preoccupied with the ways in which surfaces embrace or eschew the elements acting upon them. Each element of Chorus is chosen to particular effect, to how its unique texture and tone respond to whatever may be playing upon it, whether light, water, or air.
It's that attention to the natural elements that warms up what could otherwise be fairly austere pieces. I'll admit. I live somewhere between modern and classic. And the categorical declaration of Tuscan Minimalism (though possibly used tongue in cheek) actually does a fine job of describing my personal style. It's the intersection of Vladimir Kagan's oragnic-modern design and classic elements like a Roman bust or Greek sculpture. Thanks, Joseph, for showing me yet another designer collection to add to my stable of highly coveted pieces.
